Here is where I am now…
So far… I have no Apple computer at my house at all. I never liked them and I thought they were way too over priced. Unfortunatly the only way to develop applications for the iphone is to be running on Mac OS X 10.5.3 or above.
Now, Since i am not made of money and i am usually close to broke (being newly married and expecting a baby boy anyday now). I can not just go out and Buy a mac on a whim to try and do this project. I do, however, have a very nice Quad core amd computer with 4 gigs of ram, and a Kickass video card with a gig of memory. (I am a gamer!!!) So i got to thinking… If apple can run Windows these days with their bootcamp, Then i should be able to find a way for Mac OS X to run on a PC.
I did a little research and found that people have been working on it and have successfully done this. It is called osx86. There are many different projects doing this. I have attempted to get these installed with miserable results. My hardware is way too new for this. Back to the drawing board.
Ok, now… Since that didnt work, I had another idea. VMWare! This should work. I still had to use osx86 for the install and found some wonderful instructions for this at:
http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Installation_Guides#VMware_Install_Guides
With this, I was able to successfully run Mac OS X on my computer. Since my computer had so much memory and was really fast, I didnt notice the lag being too bad. I had to make some changes to the resolution so I could see it in 1280×1024(Much better then the original 1024×768).
I still have no sound, but i did find instructions the should help me with that. I have been more focused on other things then mess with the sound.
Since i now have a working OS to program for the IPhone. I can now download the Apple Iphone SDK. To do this I have to sign in to the developer site:
http://developer.apple.com/iphone/program/
Now since this is a project of mine, I am not going to pay the 99 to enroll in the Developer program, but they will still let me download the SDK to practice on. I have now downloaded and installed the SDK and my system is fully ready for me to learn to program for the IPhone on.
More to come soon…
