Been really Busy last couple weeks

I am expecting the birth on my son any day now. :D   My step daughter and son are enrolled in sports, so that has taken quite a bit of time this past week two.

Also… as far as my project goes, I have found out that Stanford University is doing an IPhone programming course. They only allowed like 60 people in to it. The cool thing is that they are posting all of the course materials online at:

http://www.stanford.edu/class/cs193p/cgi-bin/index.php

and the lectures are all going on Itunes a couple of days after they happen. I have been studying this in what little free time i have and it if working pretty good so far.

I am looking in to change this blog, because it is too hard to use on my iphone. Once i have a descent IPhone interface, then i should be able to update this a little more often.  I donk think anybody reads it yet, but just in case.

Untill next time.

A little about me

Nice Dark Wolf

I guess before I get to far i should say a little about my background.

I am 27 years old and computers in general have been a major hobbie of min since I was about 12.  I have been working professionally to help people with them for 11 years. I currently work for a group of car dealerships in the IT dept. I am MCSE Certified and have the knowledge and experience to get a bunch more certs, but i just havent done it yet. I am hapily married to my beautiful wife Nancy, we are expecting a new baby boy any day now. We also have 2 other kids (Hers from a previous Marriage) and 2 dogs.

This Bloging is really new to me so it will be interesting how it goes. If there is anything you would like to know from me, Just ask, and depending on what it is, I might answer.

Nice Dark Wolf

I really like wolves, so you will see them floating around the site quite often.

Here is where I am now…

So far… I have no Apple computer at my house at all. I never liked them and I thought they were way too over priced.  Unfortunatly the only way to develop applications for the iphone is  to be running on Mac OS X 10.5.3 or above.

Now, Since i am not made of money and i am usually close to broke (being newly married and expecting a baby boy anyday now). I can not just go out and Buy a mac on a whim to try and do this project.  I  do, however, have a very nice Quad core amd computer with 4 gigs of ram, and a Kickass video card with a gig of memory. (I am a gamer!!!) So i got to thinking… If apple can run Windows these days with their bootcamp, Then i should be able to find a way for Mac OS X to run on a PC.

I did a little research and found that people have been working on it and have successfully done this. It is called osx86. There are many different projects doing this. I have attempted to get these installed with miserable results. My hardware is way too new for this. Back to the drawing board.

Ok, now… Since that didnt work, I had another idea. VMWare! This should work. I still had to use osx86 for the install and found some wonderful instructions for this at:

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Installation_Guides#VMware_Install_Guides

With this, I was able to successfully run Mac OS X on my computer. Since my computer had so much memory and was really fast, I didnt notice the lag being too bad. I had to make some changes to the resolution so I could see it in 1280×1024(Much better then the original 1024×768).

I still have no sound, but i did find instructions the should help me with that. I have been more focused on other things then mess with the sound.

Since i now have a working OS to program for the IPhone. I can now download the Apple Iphone SDK. To do this I have to sign in to the developer site:

http://developer.apple.com/iphone/program/

Now since this is a project of mine, I am not going to pay the 99 to enroll in the Developer program, but they will still let me download the SDK to practice on.  I have now downloaded and installed the SDK and my system is fully ready for me to learn to program for the IPhone on.

More to come soon… :D

Hello World!

I am setting this blog up to keep track of my thoughts and experiences with learning how to develop applications for the Iphone. I will probably change this in the near future depending on how well it works out.
